The short answer
Not accurate in the genetic sense, and not meant to be. An AI baby generator makes a believable picture of a possible child from the features it can see in two photos. It cannot see your genes, so it cannot predict what a real child of yours would look like.
That does not make it pointless. It is a fun way for you and your partner to imagine a "what if" together. It just helps to know what the picture is and what it is not.
What the AI does with two photos
A generative AI system learns to make new images that look like the images it was trained on. One common kind, the diffusion model, is trained by adding random noise to images step by step and learning to reverse that process. To make a new picture, it starts from noise and refines it into an image.
When you give it two photos, the model uses them as a guide. It produces a face that looks natural and borrows visible features from both of you: skin tone, eye and hair colour, the shape of the face, nose and mouth. It works with pixels, not DNA.
Why that is not genetics
People have two copies of most genes, one inherited from each parent. When you have a child, each of you passes on only one copy of each gene, and nobody can tell from a photo which one it will be.
Some versions of a gene are recessive. Parents can each carry one copy of a recessive version, usually without any sign of it, and their child can still inherit both copies. A photo shows what is visible in each of you, never what you carry underneath.
Many traits also depend on several genes at once. Eye colour, for example, involves multiple genes, so results can be unexpected. Although it is uncommon, parents with blue eyes can have children with brown eyes. If you want to see the odds for your own eye colours, the eye colour calculator works them out from a simple genetic model.
So an AI picture can only blend what both of you show on the outside. It cannot know the hidden versions each of you carries, which ones you would pass on, or how a face changes as a child grows.
How to get a better result
Because the model only blends what it can see, the photos make the biggest difference:
- One person per photo. The model needs to know whose face to use, and Little Us rejects photos with more than one face.
- Face the camera. A straight-on view shows the shape of the face and the features clearly.
- Daylight or other even light. Strong shadows and coloured light change how skin and eyes look.
- No sunglasses, hats or heavy filters. A filter changes your skin and features, and the model will blend the filtered version.
- A recent photo. A clear phone selfie is ideal.
Honest limits
Even with good photos, there are limits worth knowing.
Results vary between runs. Image generators build in an element of chance: a diffusion model, for example, starts every picture from fresh random noise. So the same two photos can give quite different children. That is part of the fun, and also a reminder that none of them is the answer.
Skin tone and features can be off. The model can get skin tone, hair texture or the shape of features wrong. Like other generative AI, image models can inherit biases that exist in their training data.
It is a picture, not a forecast. Every photo Little Us makes carries a visible "AI-generated" mark, and our results are for entertainment, not a genetic prediction.
What to check before uploading two faces
Your faces are personal data, and so is your partner's. Before you upload them to any service, check:
- How long the photos are kept, and whether they are deleted automatically.
- Whether photos or results are used to train AI.
- Who runs the service and where, and which companies see your photos along the way.
- Whether it stores face measurements or other face data.
- Whether you can delete your account and results yourself.
And ask the other person before you upload their photo.
What Little Us does with your photos
This is what our privacy policy says:
- Parent photos are deleted 24 hours after your result is made, or 24 hours after upload if no result is made. Your browser keeps its own copy on your device for 30 days so you can use the photos again, and you can remove it sooner.
- Results are deleted after 30 days, or straight away when you delete your account.
- We never use your photos or results to train AI, and we never store face measurements or face templates.
- Little Us is run by a sole trader registered in Belgium. Our database and stored files are kept in the EU. To make your picture, your photos are sent to our image generation provider, fal.ai, and the AI model providers behind it, which may process them in the United States.
- Photos are cleaned on upload. They are resized and re-encoded, which removes metadata such as GPS location.
When you are ready, the AI baby photo generator takes two photos and about a minute. And if you are thinking about names as well, the name blender finds real first names that combine both of yours.
